Leadership
Dr. Frederick Baus
Dr. Frederick Baus was named President and CEO of the University Center of Greenville on July 1, 2006. Since his joining UCG, Baus has focused the center on the singular metric of increasing the number of baccalaureate degree-holders in the Upstate community. He serves as the Chair for the Higher Education Centers Task force, as appointed by the National Association for Consortium Leadership (ACL). Baus also received the Exemplary Service to Higher Education Award for 2008 from the South Carolina Association of Teacher Educators (SCATE).
Baus brought to UCG an outstanding background in the academic setting, with more than 25 years of managerial experience. He received a doctorate from Lehigh University, and has done post-doctoral research in Stanford's School of Education. His professional experience includes the position of chief staff officer for five difference consortia.
Before his current position, Baus most recently served at the Chief Executive Officer of the Colleges of Worchester Consortium, a 13-member association of colleges and universities in central Massachusetts. In this position he has expanded membership from ten to 13 colleges, expanded federal, state and local contracts for higher education access services, and created a fee structure to more equitably distribute program costs.
Dr. Len McCall
Dr. Len McCall, Chief Operations Officer, joined the University Center in 1993 after teaching in the English departments of both USC and Clemson. She received her bachelor's degree from Furman University, master's degree in English from Clemson, and her doctorate in 19th and 20th Century British Literature from USC.
Her interest in providing access for non-traditional students began when she commuted from Greenville first to Clemson and then to Columbia for her graduate degrees. Providing access to citizens in Greenville who can continue their careers and family commitments while also furthering their education through the University Center without a commute is a very personal mission for her.
She has been active in the Greenville community through service on numerous boards and is a graduate of Leadership Greenville, class VI.
